There is a type of Scottish independence supporters who could be called the good but trusting type, who are in favour of citizenship by family tie, but who persist in trusting their movement’s benevolence in operating the future border, fitting its claims to have anti-racist values. No matter the dangerous holes in their movement’s plans for citizenship rules, they insist that these can’t matter and the rules are bound to operate fairly, because their movement are the good guys and could not possibly do anything racist. They often simply refuse to believe that the racism against descent Scots and our close diaspora, under “civic nationalist” dogma, exists among their side’s supporters.
